History of Energy Healing
Energy Healing is both an ancient art and a modern science.
Discover topics:
Every culture has developed ways of working with life energy: from the healing temples of Egypt and Greece, to Ayurveda in India, to Native American teachings which honour the interconnectedness of all life (Maddy Harland, Mitakuye Oyasin - All My Relations).
The modern form of Energy Healing taught within the INEH is rooted in the Ageless Wisdom teachings given through Alice Bailey in the early 20th century, guided by the Tibetan teacher Djwhal Khul. These teachings demonstrate the link between the universal ‘life force’ - or Divine source - that animates all living things including our own individual energy field, which relates to our anatomy, physiology and psychological life.
Brenda Selby Johnston, who founded the INEH in the 1980s, developed these principles into a structured method of training and practice - grounding spiritual science into human consciousness (see Resources). Today, the INEH curriculum comprises more than 400 pages of carefully-curated material, offering students a comprehensive understanding of the human energy system and the tools to support health and wellbeing (INEH, About Esoteric Healing).
Since then, Energy Healing has spread across Europe, the Americas, Africa and beyond, with our journals recording decades of exploration: from the creative role of the endocrine glands, to the spiritual significance of the nervous system, to the practical benefits of energy alignment and meditation – all for the benefit of holistic health and ‘wholeness’ of being.
The history of Energy Healing is still being written - evolving as practitioners continue to blend ancient wisdom with modern scientific insights.
